Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups flour

  • 2 cups buttermilk

  • 8 tbsp. salted butter, cold and cubed

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tsp. baking powder

  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar

  • ⅛ tsp. fresh ground nutmeg

How to Prepare

  1. Preheat oven to  400°F.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, add 2 ½ cups flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, and ⅛ tsp. fresh ground nutmeg. Add 2 tbsp. brown sugar and continue stirring.

  3. Beat 1 egg into a small bowl and add to dry mixture. Add 8 tbsp. salted butter. Mix to cover butter and begin to mash with a pastry cutter or a fork to break up the butter, until the mixture is evenly crumbly.

  4. Add 1 ½ cup buttermilk and mix well to combine. If the mixture is too wet, add a bit more flour. If it’s too dry, add a bit more buttermilk.

  5. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently press it out to about ¾” thick. Using a circle-shaped cutter, cut the dough into rounds. Place on a parchment-paper lined sheet tray.

  6. Beat 1 egg in a small bowl. Add ½ cup buttermilk. Using a brush or spoon, coat the top of each biscuit with mixture.

  7. Place in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Take them out when they’re golden brown on top.

  8. Serve with butter and enjoy!
