Italian White Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 4 ounces high-quality white chocolate

  • Whipped cream (for topping)

  • A pinch of Celtic Sea Salt (or any flaky sea salt)

  • Nutmeg (for garnish)

How to Prepare

  1. In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2-3 tablespoons of whole milk until smooth. Set aside.

  2. In a saucepan, combine the remaining whole milk (just shy of 2 cups) and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Heat on low until it starts to bubble gently.

  3. Add a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the milk mixture. Stir gently.

  4. Chop 4 ounces of high-quality white chocolate into small pieces.

  5. Remove the saucepan from heat when the milk is warm and has small bubbles. Stir in the white chocolate until fully melted.

  6. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan while stirring continuously. Return the saucepan to low heat.

  7. Cook the mixture until it thickens, but do not let it boil. It should have a smooth and creamy consistency.

  8. Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat.

  9. Fill your mug with the hot white chocolate mixture.

  10. Top it with a generous dollop of whipped cream.

  11. Grate a small amount of nutmeg over the whipped cream for garnish.

  12. Enjoy your creamy Italian-style white hot chocolate!
